My training log for the week of July 21st, 2025 got off to a good start for a Monday morning with a close to sunrise run heading east toward the Sandia Mountains.

I did an out and back, mostly on the suburban singletrack that I run on so often (and never get tired of).

For some unknown reason, I decided that I wanted to do a loop that meant running up a long hill in a neighborhood (391′ of elevation gain) just to see Hank and Marie’s house.

Amazing to see so much water behind the Pino Dam. We’ve had quite a few poor monsoon seasons, but this one has been quite good for the first month. Still not enough, though, as the Rio Grande River is dry in Albuquerque.

When I have a really slow run like I did this morning, I question my training (six days on and one day off). But at this point in my running career (spanning almost 59 years), does it really matter if a run is slow?
Friday July 25th, 2025
I wasn’t expecting much this morning after yesterday morning’s quite slow run. I ran north to the Sandia Pueblo reservation land and then east along the reservation. The Sandia Mountains are in the distance.
Saturday July 26th, 2025
I did a 1.14 mile loop that included going to the grocery store, so the uphill leg on singletrack was a ruck carrying two bags of groceries!

Running at our “sea level” (5,000′) makes a difference, and I had a beautiful run on acequia trails in the Albuquerque bosque. Being by water when you live in the high desert is pure joy!
