Training Log for the Week of August 11th 2025

My training log for the week of August 11th, 2025 started with a pretty good run. After such a slow run yesterday, I wasn’t expecting much. But like last week, I used the run to do fartlek and get in a 45:00+ run.

Training Log - Week of August 11th, 2025

Sometimes singletrack takes you along a power line trail like it did this morning! I started doing fartlek because a bit of sciatica flared up and I had to keep stopping. It turned out to be a good workout with fartlek on the east and up and a steady run on the way back.

I drove for less than 20:00 to the Elena Gallegos Open Space and paid $1.00 to park. With a lot of work getting over endless rocks on the trail, my reward was seeing beautiful views and getting up to 6,929′

Dirt is dirt, and it is so much easier on the lower body. Arroyos are a great place to find singletrack and dirt paths, even close to home!

I got the Asics Fuji Lite 5s and tested them on perhaps a more technical trail than they are meant for. They actually did very well, but I must admit that I didn’t enjoy the route and ended up running roads on the way back and saw this buck!

I did a dam to dam to dam run this morning. I started my run behind one of our four earthen dams (where the water should be) and then ran to another dam and back. It wasn’t until I got back to the first dam and looked to the west that I saw any water, and that was a country club pond!

I drove down to the Rio Grande and parked in the Alameda Open Space area. The old Alameda two-lane bridge still stands and is a pedestrian bridge to the west side of the river. It is beautiful on both sides, but the west side offers near perfect trails for hours and hours of activity (running, walking, mountain biking, and horseback riding).

Mount Taylor, about 60 miles to the west in Grants, New Mexico
Albuquerque’s west mesa from the Sandia Mountain foothills

This was a pretty sharp contrast to yesterday’s run. This run’s turnaround was 1,100′ higher and had hardly any trees. Lots of cactuses and high desert vegetation, but at least it is still green!
