My training log for the week of August 25th, 2025 started with some long slow distance with the emphasis on slow. I was tired from Saturday and Sunday, and experiencing some delayed onset muscle soreness. I did start the week with an HRV of “10”, telling me that my heart was good to go. It was just my legs that were holding me back!

I looped past Jim’s mountain bike park this morning and checked the altitude there. It is 5,648′ and about 320 acres of interior trails, which are almost walker-free since this main trail is the most used to go east (or the one on the north edge of the open space).

I had to go to downtown Albuquerque this morning, which I haven’t done since last year, so I only had time to walk. This guy started out pacing me and waited for me on the wall to get out of the spillway. He didn’t keep going, though, because that is the edge of his territory!

In ancient Chinese folklore, it is believed that evil travels in straight lines. I felt confident that I would not encounter any when I ran on this path this morning!

I discovered some new dirt to run on this morning right on the other side of a 6-lane highway next to the grocery store where I parked. For a “city” we are blessed to have so many dirt trails, paths. and singletrack even in urban and suburban settings.

Another amazing adventure in the valley and a much closer view of the volcanoes from alongside a field of what I believe is sorghum.

I was listening to the UTMB Mont Blanc livestream and actually stopped and watched the women’s finish. It was an extended stop here, and after that, I didn’t feel like doing any more climbing. I looped back and came across a snake on the trail. I stopped and waited for it to cross the path, and thankfully I did because as soon as it crossed, a mountain bike came whizzing by that wouldn’t have seen it.

I wanted to watch the early service at Lakewood this morning, so I walked a little early and got treated to this sunrise.
