My training log for the week of September 8th 2025, started with tired legs from 3 hours of time on feet at the New Mexico State Fair. I felt like I was doing a run after I had done a long run the day before!

I wore trail shoes, so I locked myself in pretty much to the route that I had to take. We had heavy rain Saturday evening, but I wasn’t ready for this kind of erosion. Thankfully the Fuji Light 5s that I wear are okay on paved because I couldn’t run on this trail for sure!

At 7:30 this morning, the moon was still high over the mesa!

I spent over 30 years running mostly on pavement in NJ. I’ve spent 26 years running mostly on trails in NM. I faced this choice this morning and decided to take the singletrack!

View from Heritage Hills park by my house with the cables from the Sandia Peak Tramway glinting in the sunlight against the backdrop of the mountain.

The view to the west and the Three Sisters Volcanoes. For natural vegetation along the Academy cross country course, that is as green as it gets!

Last run in a pair of Asics that now have 626 miles on them. Looking forward to putting miles on a new pair of Asics down at the river on the paved part of the Bosque Trail.

I parked at the Rio Grande Nature Center State Park which is close to downtown Albuquerque. It has easy access to the Bosque Trail with lots and lots of cyclists and runner. An African runner was coming toward me and he was tall enough the he completely concealed the fact that an African woman runner was tucked in behind him in lock step, probably running sub 6:00 pace. They are in the distance in this photo because that is how far they got by the time that I took the picture!
