Training Log for the Week of September 15th 2025

My training log for the week of September 15th 2025 starts with a walk because I was so sore from wearing the Novablast 5s yesterday. It is designed so differently from what I have been wearing that I had sore muscles because of the 8mm drop that I simply am not used to. At a mile, I switched to the Running profile on my Vantage V2 and got in a relatively good run.

Training Log for the Week of September 15th, 2025

Runners are superstitious and routine-oriented. I always believed that if a shoe worked, stick with it. I stuck with one shoe, the Asics Gel DS Trainer, for 28 years until it was discontinued. For the past year, I have worn a Gel Nimbus Lite 3, and it was okay. With 600+ miles on it, though, I had to get a new shoe and went with the highly recommended Novablast 5. With a 6mm heel stack difference from the Nimbus Lite 3 (41 mm vs 35 mm), I felt muscles this morning that haven’t been worked. I am going to alternate the Novablast with my Fuji Lite 5s until I feel comfortable wearing them as a daily trainer, as they are intended to be.

Jim’s Mountain Bike Park was deserted this morning. It was after sunrise but still early. With temperatures in the 50s now, people don’t need to start their outdoor routines so early!

The Nature Center is about a mile and a half from downtown Albuquerque so my daughter and I took advantage of the proximity to do a hike, walk around Old Town and have lunch, and then go to the Albuquerque Museum of Art & History in Old Town. Elapsed time (minus driving) was about 3 1/2 hours! The cat belonged to the owner of one of the shops in Old Town!

I started walking and wasn’t going to record it, but then I thought that maybe that would be it for the day. I did run, though, and it started well, but tired legs set in. Sometimes I think that I am too focused on miles per week, but the only way that I am getting to 1,000 miles this year is by staying focused!

I ran a dirt trail along a hillside by a 6-lane road and had only gone about 15:00 when I heard the distinct sound of a coyote. I spotted him about 50′ from the back of a house and about 75′ from that 6-lane road. Amazing to see, amazing to hear, and amazing to hear others responding to his calls!

I found the best spot to park in the bosque this morning and it is only 15:00 away (the closest spot of all). Instant access to an acequia path, ditch, and gorgeous backyards for miles!

I think that they would call the visibility looking west “unlimited”!
