Training Log for the Week of October 12th 2026

The week of October 12th starts on what would be my father’s 114th birthday and includes runs, hikes, and walks. The day after Balloon Fiesta is always a letdown but there were some balloons that went up for a farewell flight!

The morning started with the last Maggie walk of the week (she is going to Durango with my daughter, so I won’t see her next weekend. After I dropped her off, I did a loop starting at Academy Hills Park, and then in the evening, I did a walk.

Doing 30+ miles a week at 75 leaves me with tired legs pretty much all of the time. This morning I did a hike into Embudito Canyon and the ran back.

After two weeks with no rain, I knew that it was time to go back to the Rio Grande Valley and to see the river. It was awesome and actually looked like areal river again!

I walked to the 21.2-mile mark of the Duke City Marathon to watch the leaders finish and then walked back to get ready to wait with my older daughter, who ran the 5th leg of the UNMH Coed Relay Team. They finished 4th in their division, which was great, and I got in a walk and three short runs!
