Training Log for the Week of June 1st 2026

My training log for the week of June 1st, 2026, starts by trying to make amends for doing only two strength workouts in May. I got so caught up with running, hiking, and walking my daughter’s dog Maggie, that I put one of the things that is non-negotiable on the back burner. I have started June by doing a workout from one of my favorite programs, Job 1.

This morning at sunrise, I started a Starbucks run and literally ran to Starbucks, got coffee, put it in a Thermos, and did a pretty run home with the Sandia Mountains to the east. Later, I did  Job 1 Start Strong: Back, Glute, and Core.

Today is election day in New Mexico, so I did a loop run to the polling place, arriving at 7:03 just as they opened. It was a sunrise run but was quickly warming up as the run continued, since it was 71 at 5:30 this morning (quite warm for an Albuquerque morning in June).

My daughter’s dog Maggie is back for so I can’t run. We did two walks, each 1.6 mile loops. I did see this Facebook Memory, though, and it reminded me that five years ago, on June 1st, 2021, I had a pacemaker implanted for low heart rate. Here’s the post from two days after the procedure.

At sunrise walk with Maggie, a 10 Minute Muscle Biceps workout, and then a run. I did the same loop that I did five years ago just after the implant, but running this time and celebrating!

The smoke on the Sandia Mountains was thick, and I didn’t really want to spend too much time in it. Hopefully the smoke will be gone by this evening, and I can get in something else for today.

I started running at 6:25 and caught the sunrise. It was so still that balloons were up and the flags weren’t moving. I hydrated well with 22 oz. of water in the handheld, and 22 oz. of water with a scoop of Tailwind i the soft flask. I fueled with one GoMacro bar spaced out over the course of the run.

We only average half an inch of rain in June, so we expect it to be hot and dry. It is also still enough for the balloons to go up. Maggie the Dog and I did our loop in about 39:00 this morning (elapsed time was much longer for sniffing, etc.)!
