I’m looking forward to another week of training. I know that we aren’t guaranteed tomorrow, but I’ve gotten to a high level of fitness and hope to be able to continue to maintain and improve it. Starting this week, though, I am adding in strength training after a six-week hiatus.
Monday July 27th, 2026
Our 7:00 am walk, but by 7:45, it was already 77 degrees with 51% humidity. Maggie and I took the path at the park with the most shade! The evening Maggie walk was 95 degrees again, so we cut it short.
Tuesday July 28th, 2026
The last Maggie walk until Saturday evening, and it was a warm-up for the trail run that I did in the Corrales Bosque immediately afterward.
Wednesday July 29th, 2026
Weekly Wednesday adventure with my older daughter and our three dogs. I had a very rare issue with my backup Polar Vantage V2, and it froze when I stopped it when we got to the river. I used the Strava app to record the rest of the workout. We ended up hiking for 1:13:05, and the dogs had a blast swimming in the Rio Grande.

I got in a BODi LAVA workout to loosen up before I ran, but the trade-off was a bit later start. Between running on the roads and the lack of shade, the heat really got to me. I just wanted to get home and cool down!

Even though I left at sunrise, I still overheated. It was 81 at the turnaround that was in full sun, and I could only get a little shade on the way back. The second image, looking back at the bridge, is 3/4 of a mile to go, and that was welcome to see!
Saturday August 1st, 2026
It was 74 degrees at the start at the Corrales Flying Star parking lot and 84 degrees when I finished. I was well prepared with water and Energize, but I probably would have benefited from having Tailwind in the handheld. No matter what, I always love bosque time!

The first of two Maggie the Dog walks, but I’m not sure that there will be a second one. It might just be too hot again unless we walk in the dark. It is getting very dry now, with temperatures near 100 every day and no monsoon rain. We ended the day and the week with another walk in 95-degree heat at 7:15 pm :(.
