Training Log for the Week of June 15th 2026

My training log for the week of June 15th, 2026, starts after an emotionally and physically draining weekend of moving. The blessing was that I moved close by, and my daughter brought her dog Maggie for the weekend like she always does. But I had to establish a new routine to stay on track.

You can tell that I didn’t move far away because I am on the same trails and paths, and the same Sandia Mountains are to the east. I have been running on them for almost 30 years, and seeing the Sandias change over the years as the climate changes. A sunrise walk and a sunset walk with Maggie today.

One last walk with Maggie in the morning before my daughter comes straight from her overnight shift at the hospital to pick her up at 8:00 am. It is way too hot now to run in the evening, so I just did another walk at sunset.

With Maggie gone until Saturday evening, I can start running again. I got a late start, though, and it was very hot, so I didn’t run for very long.

An early start this morning made all the difference in my run. It was only 70 degrees, but the sun is very strong at over 5,600′. In the image below, you can just make out the Three Sisters Volcanoes on Albuquerque’s west mesa. We have smoke from a wildfire over the city, and it cuts down on the views of the Sandias, too.
