Training Log for the Week of August 31st 2026

My training log for the week of August 31st, 2026, has a milestone in it as I celebrate 60 years of running on September 1st. My first day of high school cross country was September 1st, 1966, and I am still running!

Mondays are always Maggie the Dog walks, as I keep her while my older daughter works 12-hour overnight shifts at the University Hospital. We did a sunrise and a sunset walk and got in 3.78 miles together.

After a Maggie the Dog walk and my daughter picking her up, I drove to a nearby park to start a run that passed a local golf course. My first cross country practice was on the Raritan Valley Country Club golf course, so I was sort or re-creating Day One 60 years ago!

I’ve decided on a more sensible approach to my workouts and to actually having a plan. I walked one mile, did some stretches, leg swings, sumo squats, and squats, and then ran 4 miles on the Corrales Lateral path. Below is possibly an 80 – 100 year old cottonwood.

First run locally in quite a while, and I did an out-and-back with a stop to do the same stretches, leg swings, sumo squats, and squats.
