Training Log for the Week of May 18th 2026

My training log for the week of May 18th, 2026, has a total of 3 runs, 2 hikes, and 6 Maggie the Dog walks for a total of 30.6 miles and 1,624′ of elevation gain.

Monday May 18th, 2026

A sunrise walk with Maggie, and then after my daughter picked her up, I went for a short run to get 4 miles for the day.

The only thing that I can salvage from today’s run is that I did it even though I was pretty tired. I did it and didn’t let the pace fall apart and I also got another 141′ of elevation gain, which all adds up. Still lots of smoke on the Sandias this morning.

I love going down to the Rio Grande, my daughter Grace loves to, too, and now we know that Maggie her dog loves to swim in the river. What a fun adventure!

The smoke on the Sandias hasn’t let up for weeks. Maggie and I walked and saw it again this morning. I just realized that she is probably a German Pinscher and is high energy (I already knew that) and needs lots of exercise (I figured that out, too!). Note: we now think that Maggie is probably an Australian Kelpie since she likes jumping on tables and lying down!

An adventure in my favorite area of Albuquerque. I wanted to see a place for my daughter to park and take her dog to the river and saw a beautifully flowing river in the process!

‘m getting too obsessed with miles on Strava, but I am holding up, and they go by quickly with Maggie either pulling me or darting to get a bug, leaf, or anything that moves. The AKC says that she has a “high prey instinct,” and that’s probably why Preshy the cat stays out of sight (that and she’s smart and stands her ground on the rare occasion that they encounter each other)!

Maggie the Dog and I did a hike this morning and saw this when we started. It is art, but it really looks like an alien cell tower!
