My training log for the week of June 22nd starts with an active rest day since my older daughter started working on Mondays. Mondays used to be an active rest day years ago, and I seem to be benefiting from the two Maggie the Dog walks and then getting back into running on Tuesday. That actually gives me five days of running workouts, and that works great now.
Monday June 22nd, 2026
Not quite a sunrise walk, but it was still cool enough. It always amazes me that Albuquerque can be so green with so little water (the grass at the park is watered, of course). The snowmelt was almost nonexistent this year, so the Rio Grande has dried up, and to date, we still have not had any monsoon rain.
Tuesday June 23rd, 2026
Last Maggie the Dog walk before her mother picked her up after her shift at the hospital. As soon as they left, I went and ran with 22 ounces of water in the Amphipod and the same amount of water with a scoop of Tailwind in a soft flask. The sun was already too strong, so I sought out as much shade as I could.
Wednesday June 24th, 2026
I went to the Rio Grande Valley and parked at the Alameda Open Space parking lot. I ran north to find water in the Rio Grande and there is still water at our favorite spot for Maggie the Dog to swim at the edge of Sandia Pueblo Reservation land. Significantly less water than when we went there about six weeks ago, but not completely dry like the rest of the river just to the south.

An easy sunrise out and back with clouds, which brought us some heavy rain this afternoon!
Friday June 26th, 2026
My older daughter and I always do a hike during the week, and this week it fell on a Friday. We started at the Gabaldon parking area and headed south in the Rio Grande bosque with three dogs. Crossing a dry Rio Grande River was surreal (and muddy in spots), and we ended up doing it twice as we did our loop.
Saturday June 27th, 2026
I did a loop with pickups on the uphill section. My training week is over, and now I just do Maggie the Dog walks to finish the week. I have to train her to run!
Sunday June 28th, 2026
Two Maggie the Dog walks to end the week with a total between running, hiking, and walking of 32.2 miles.
