It seems so odd to say that my training log for the week of September 21st, 2026, was impacted by rain instead of heat, but it was indeed. The Super El Niño began impacting us in the middle of the month and made for lots of mud in the Corrales Bosque and on the lateral paths. This week, I finally had to abandon going down there after an all-day rain on Wednesday and haven’t been back since.
Monday September 21st, 2026
After a walk with Maggie before my daughter picked her up, I headed to Corrales and did a run that was part road and part dirt. I was looking at a place to rent on an acre of land, but it was too far out to be practical.
Tuesday September 22nd, 2026
Tuesdays are typically the days that my older daughter and I walk our three dogs, and today was no exception. We started at East La Entrada, which we hadn’t done before, and eventually headed over to the Rio Grande. It was muddy, high, and fast-flowing, but Maggie went in for what could be her last swim in the river this year.
Wednesday September 23rd, 2026
For the first time ever, I did a walk recorded on Strava with an umbrella. The rain wasn’t going to let up and I had to do something, so a walk it was!
Thursday September 24th, 2026
After yesterday’s rain, there was no sense in going to Corrales, so I headed for the foothills. The first stop was at Suncreek Village (Tesoro), where I asked about available apartments. After finding out that there were two and walking around the complex for a while, I moved the car closer to Eubank and started my run. I ran on the same path and over the John Robert Dam to Tramway that I did 30 years ago. It was good to be back!
Friday September 25th, 2026
Today I parked on Vista Bonita, the dead end off of Spain with access to the Open Space. It overlapped with yesterday’s run, but I went under Tramway and ran past the Michael Emery parking lot to the fence line where I used to turn around on my runs from Suncreek Village.
Saturday September 26th, 2026
Maggie and I parked on the same street as yesterday and walked for a mile for her to poop before we started running. We then continued heading east and up to the Embudito Trailhead. Instead of taking the bypass, we stayed on the original trail just to the sensitive riparian area where Maggie got a drink and we turned around and headed back.
